According to all the leaflets, the established and "best" way to stop smoking is using willpower. You need willpower, you need nicotine patches and gum and it's going to be very difficult - there's no such thing as the "easiest" way to quit smoking. But the first stage of giving up smoking easily is to get the nicotine out of your body, and nicotine replacement therapies seem to do the opposite by putting nicotine into your body. There is a big argument that says if you are going to give up smoking the positive way, then it is best if you do it without nicotine gum or patches. However before you make that decision, you should speak to your doctor for their advice. If they say that's OK, then you really could be looking at a positive way to stop smoking.
What we have found time and time again is that the people who are successful at stopping permanently are surprised at just how easy it was. This does not understate what an incredible achievement it is to stop, it is simply an observation that it does not have to be difficult.
