When a great player pulls out a 6 iron, they say two things to themselves
1. I love hitting 6 iron shots.
2. I can bring into my mind now a 6 iron championship winning shot.
They can do this for the following reason. When they were previously out playing and they hit a bad six iron shot, they put the club back in the bag and thought no more of it. When they hit a great shot, they put the club back in the bag in a particularly confident manner and memorised the feeling of that shot. They said to themselves 'That was a beautiful shot and I can play it again by bringing back that feeling. It's in my memory for the future.' Every great 6 iron shot after that simply tops up the positive muscle memory. You can start doing this today! Even a bad round has some good shots!
